Anne Rice: 'I Quit Being A Christian'
OMFG, it's about time. Maybe now we'll get a good book out of her again. I couldn't even finish Angel time. Those two Christ books weren't much better.
5 Things You Should Never Put in a Dishwasher | Apartment Therapy Unplggd
I don't know if you have these fights around your house, but I'm constantly finding things in the dishwasher that don't belong there and having to spend 5 minutes bitching about it. If you have someone who refuses to listen, print out this short article and paste it to the cabinet or something.
More plywood
I'll admit, I have no idea how to make a cabinet door. But after seeing some of these plywood ideas, I'm willing to try. With the cost of cabinetry, being able to make your own would save you thousands on a kitchen remodel and these cabinet fronts look gorgeous.
Architectural Detail: Plywood Ceiling : Remodelista
I've got to be honest. I kind of like it. I've seen plywood used on floors for years for a creative modern mix of texture. With the right finish you could even substitute particle board here. I'm not sure what she used as the transitional piece between the boards, but yous could probably use, flooring transitional moldings to seal those cracks.
The Marcus Beach House by Bark Architects CONTEMPORIST
Of course, beach houses are always gorgeous. I feel like this one has a certain floating tree house look to it. I love the materials used for the structures wall. It makes you feel like the house has a minimalist impact on it's environment. However, I don't know how this would hold up in a harsher climate with the lack of insulation. I really think that's the next hurdle builders need to start looking at, is how to provide structures with minimal ongoing cost for maintenance.

The Paranoid Guide to Better Living: The Doomsday Shelter
With all of the fear of protests and riots this week in Arizona over SB 1070, it makes me wonder how many people have panic rooms or bomb shelters in their home. I did go on a tour of a historic home downtown that had turned it's bomb shelter into a nifty bar. So I guess there's always a use for the extra room.
Beadboard on Kitchen Cabinets, Walls, and Ceilings
I'm not usually a big fan of beadboard. But looking at this picture, I could imagine using it in my kitchen, especially as a background for floating shelves. What do you think? There are more pictures after the link.

LeAnn Rimes Nashville House
Have you seen the pictures of LeAnn Rimes, Nashville house? Well if you like it, apparently it's up for sale as she moves into a new house with her new man, Eddie Cibrian. I don't know what kind of settlement her husband, Dean Sheremet, is receiving, but I would get a little teary eyed having to move out of this house. The detail on those wood beams are exquisite. The leather club chairs really tie into the dark woods to set a tone in that room. So if you have $7 million dollars, you might want to ask them to throw in the chairs.

SB1070
Some might think it nice when our local state issues make national news. Some might also think it offensive. I for one get a little upset at being labeled as a racist in community boards just because I am identified as being from Arizona. Like so many of our social issues fueled by media coverage, your average person will tend to take a stand on things without educating themselves on the entire issue. I am as guilty on this as anyone else. As with any other issue, there are pro's and con's to this issue. I do wish people would remember that Arizona citizens have not had a chance to vote on this, as it was passed by our state officials without a public vote. So please keep in mind that small fact before labeling someone as a racist without even asking their views.
Immigration is a concern to us as a country and in an age of terrorism, border control is something that we need to be concerned with. I think that with an issue as volatile as immigration and with such far reaching implications, especially with respect to human rights, that our Federal government needs to be involved. However, voters should have their voices heard, because this is one of the benefits provided by our constitution. Maybe it's time that our Senators and Congressman started holding more public forums and hearing from their constituents on their feelings on immigration and what should be done as a country instead of letting the hot heads paint our portraits in the media.

Modern Phoenix
I don't know if you are familiar with this web site or not, but there's a terrific group of people that congregate over at Modern Phoenix. The web site and community is the love child of couple who adored mid-century modern design and preservation of it throughout the Phoenix area. Through community forums and a lot of hard work they have provided an extensive database of mid-century modern homes that buyers can find in the Phoenix valley. Many homeowners have shared their rehab stories and shown pictures and resources that chronicle their successes. Each year the web site sponsors a home tour that shows you the best of the best. While my home comes from the time period of many of these, it has a little more hacienda look. However, with my flat roof, the home could easily become a modern masterpiece. Only time will tell. Please don't be afraid to leave me your feedback and check out their website over at http://www.modernphoenix.com

Outside Picture
So here's a nice picture of the house as seen from the corner. We have a large quarter of an acre corner lot. Our thoughts have been either to go modern and sandblast the block or stucco over it and go for more of a Mediterranean or Modern Hacienda look. You can see that the front door has no entry appeal and is rather bland and boring. I thought about building a courtyard in front and including an large entry gate at the edge of the house leading to the front door. Then by enclosing the side yard area on the right, we could include more of the yard for entertaining and replace those windows on the right side with french doors leading outside. The house definitely has potential, but it takes money to do so.
So please keep clicking on my advertising links like you are voting for an American Idol. I get paid a few cents with every click. They all add up.
Loan Modification
Chase bank is so classy. They keep calling me and I'm greeted with silence on the other end of the phone. Since when did they have to resort to hiring heavy breathing perverts to work their call center. I went through something similar with Bank of America when I short-sold my house last year. Except they just kept auto dialing me 10 times a day and then someone from India would come on line and ask the same stupid questions that I just answered to the last person I talked to.
I really appreciate all of the people who came to my blog and clicked on the advertising links to help yesterday. It really works, please keep up all of the hard work and I'll update you on the results. If you have Google Adsense on your site, let me know and I'll go to yours and return the favor!

A Little about my home
Pictures will be coming soon. I promise. A little about my home and why it needs a good remodel. It's about 2,500 sq ft. A good size. The original part was built in the 40's with minimal remodelling done to it. Then there were 2 additions, both probably done without permits and definitely not up to code. The last witch who owned it decided to make it look like a Mexican restaurant. We're talking saltillo tile laid very poorly, bright orange tile baseboards, yellow walls and kitchen cabinets and bright blue tile counters. Oh an less I forgot, pepto bismall pink trim around all of the doors. It was hideous. So I painted and tried to redo the cabinets, which has caused them to fall apart and rented it out for 2 years before moving back into it. Now, I need fix the kitchen, do something with the floors. I had to tear apart half a bar to get my fridge in. Apparently they built in the kitchen around a fridge. Duh! Like those never go bad. There's a termite infestation that I need $800 for. That's about 1,200 clicks, so please get to work. Plus I have 2 bathrooms that don't function. So please, please, please help me out and click on my advertisers so that I can pay for this remodel.
Thanks in advance!!!
Thanks in advance!!!
Rustic European Kitchen Ideas
In America we are so focused on built-in kitchen cabinets and having everything put away. Lately, I'm starting to see European trends floating across the pond. Farmhouse sinks and open shelving is an important trend that you will start seeing more and more. The main reason that Americans should have for embracing this is cost. If you go down to your local Home Depot and get a quote on a new kitchen, you will probably have a heart attack with respect to the cost. With most homes not having any equity, Americans will not be able to spend $50,000 - $100,000 for kitchen remodels anymore. I think the most economical way for me to remodel my kitchen is do demo it and then find open shelving pieces that can take the place of the cabinets. It looks like this can be done for a fraction of the cost and still look nice. You can find economical shelving units and tables at Target, Wal-mart and Ikea that would complete this look. Removing the tops of most tables and having a new countertop installed in it's place is not usually that big of a deal as long as the shelve can support the weight.
I would appreciate your input. Do you like the above picture? Have you done a similar project yourself? As always, please remember that I need your help. I get paid when you click on my advertising links. Please click away so that I can raise the money to repair and finish my dream home. I'm excited to include you all in the process.

Loan Modification
So as part of securing my home, I'm trying to persue a loan modification from my bank. It's currently with Chase. I've faxed everything to them and hopefully I will receive a response. I would appreciate e-mails or comments from anyone who has experience with Chase on a loan modification.
I would love to know how they make their decisions. I can't refinance because of appraisals and my income is down by 50%. That's why I need all of your help in clicking the links to help me raise money to finish my home.
